Finally, the Huey P. Long (Huey Pierce Long, Jr.) bridge is named for the 40th governor of the state of Louisiana. This is a bridge that combines a road and a railroad rising to a height of 47 meters above ground level (tallest in the world), a height under which the heaviest ships can easily pass back and forth along the Mississippi River. Us Vietnamese people of plain language call the bridge Huỳnh Phi Long. Anyways, the rail bridge spans the river high above one's head not unlike a “flying dragon”. For this reason, the Vietnamese of New Orleans feel a sense of pride when they get to introduce guests from afar to the world records held by our city. As for me, I record a new notable record of the practice of “naming by sight” of the women and children, young and old, which everyone knows when they hear it.

A correspondent for Trẻ Magazine Louisiana, Phu Nguyen, took me to see the Huey P. Long Bridge, the tallest in the world. He told me facetiously that the Vietnamese in New Orleans call the long bridge, winding and soaring like a dragon ascending into heaven and quite pleasing to the eyes, the Huỳnh Phi Long [Huey P. Long; literally, yellow flying dragon] bridge. I thought to myself, that's so true! It is so fitting to the disposition of us Vietnamese people to live in a place that has roads named for such great, well-known Vietnamese historical figures.
