1. Canción tradicional de celebración navideña.
2. Canción tradicional breve que con frecuencia alternaba estrofas interpretadas por un solista con la repetición de un estribillo. Fue cultivado tanto en España y Portugal como en sus territorios americanos desde la época del Renacimiento.
3. Tipo de poema con versos arte menor, generalmente hexasílabos u octosílabos, que siempre incluye un estribillo. Igual que su versión musical₂, fue cultivado en toda la Península Ibérica y en sus territorios de América.
