Lớp bẹ ôm bên ngoài của măng tre. Khi măng tre lớn lên phát triển thành cây tre thì các bẹ này tách dần ra khỏi thân và khô. Các bẹ tre khô này được gọi là mo nang. Mo nang này có thể dùng làm quạt và một số công dụng khác. Mo của cây cau không gọi là mo nang.
