1. mutanda simile allo slip, ma molto più sgambata, tanto da consistere sui fianchi solo in un sottile nastro o un cordoncino. Viene spesso confuso con il perizoma, altro tipo di mutandina che può essere sgambata o meno (e in questo differisce dal tanga, che lo è sempre), ma nella sua parte posteriore è tanto stretta da consistere in una sottilissima striscia di tessuto
2. benché incorretto, è ormai prassi (per assonanza con l'inglese thong) definire con questo termine anche l'estremo derivato del perizoma, dal quale si discosta perché la parte posteriore è ridotta ad un mero filo di tessuto
