C'est un processus complexe dans lequel la thrombine permet la transformation du fibrinogène du plasma sanguin en fibrine, aboutissant à la formation d'un caillot sanguin et qui est une partie importante de l’hémostase où la paroi endommagée d’un vaisseau sanguin est couverte d’un caillot de fibrine pour arrêter l’hémorragie.
