Buddo had told him about the alarm clocks. Alarm clocks were cadets at the NKVD higher law school; here they were serving their internship. Their main assignment was to sit on the conveyor. An investigation was supposed to go on uninterruptedly for several days and nights, otherwise there would be no use in it.
