The Western Galilee Hospital is recognized as a university hospital. It is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine in Safed and enables experience for students in the Faculty.

When a hospital is a university hospital, although these are still two separate bodies, they have joint management and control agreements over three significant subjects: teaching, research and development, and entrepreneurship.
