I still to this day cannot determine how that branch of the Päätalo family that I belong to has gotten what is essentially a craving to give their sons noble names. Perhaps it was a subconscious desire of the parents living in abject poverty to pretend as someone well off even if just in how they named their children. My name Kaarlo Alvar is for someone of my background at least fairly haughty. Yet it falls second to the name that had been written down in the records of the Taivalkoski church parish as the name for Kummu's Kalle, the third oldest son of Aukusti Päätalo: Karl Gustaf!
