Processed seaweeds of the genus Eucheuma are obtained by treating natural strains of marine algae of the species Eucheuma cottonii and Eucheuma spinosum of the order Rhodophyceae (red algae) with aqueous alkali solutions (ΚΟΗ) to remove foreign impurities, followed by washing with clean water and drying, resulting in the final product.
