  3. used to express disappointment in a desired but unrealized result, especially due to an unfulfilled condition

Examples

“Masaya sana sila.”

I hope they're happy.

“Sana nakarating sila nang ligtas.”

Hopefully they all arrived safely.

“Sana sa ibang pamilya na lang ako ipinanganak.”

I wish I was born in a different family instead.

“Nanalo sana siya sa takbuhan, pero nadapa siya sa pinakadulo.”

He would have won the race, but he tripped at the very end.

“Pupunta sana ako sa bahay mo, pero nagbago ang isip ko.”

I originally intended to go to your house, but I changed my mind.

“Nag-aaral pa sana ako ngayon sa iskul, kung hindi ako nagkasakit.”

I would have still been studying in school right now, if only I hadn't gotten sick.

“Kung nahulog siya sa patibong, patay na sana siya.”

If only he fell into the trap, he would be dead right now.
