Variedad de leucocito que tiene poco citoplasma y un único y enorme núcleo. Está presente en la sangre y en los tejidos linfáticos. Su función es la defensa inmunitaria contra los virus y otros agentes patógenos, a los que rechaza fabricando anticuerpos e identifica, por si se vuelven a presentar en el futuro, presentando una reacción inmune más pronta.
