  1. The principle that everything is interdependent, that all things arise in dependence upon multiple causes and conditions.
  2. Dependent origination: a doctrine of Buddhist philosophy stating that all dharmas arise in dependence upon other dharmas: "if this exists, that exists; if this ceases to exist, that also ceases to exist".
  3. The Twelve Nidānas.
