...until the 15th century no information is found that would suggest that mehter is a musical term. In the sources from the 15th century however, it is seen that this term describes a musical group. The term "çalıcı" (player) in the phrase çalıcı mehter, emerged especially during Mehmed II's reign, fell off use in time and mehter settled in the colloquial use as a term that refers to the band by itself.
