(Literally, “to be eager for new things,” but it had the idiomatic sense of “to desire a change in the state of affairs” or, more directly, “to desire revolution.” Sallust, in The Conspiracy of Catiline, uses similar phrasings, and examples of the idiom appear also in Caesar and Livy.)
