定義

1. 国の元首などが国を代表して発する外交文書（古語）。例：宣戦布告詔書、隋書に記された聖徳太子が隋の皇帝に伝えたという文書。
2. 漢籍・仏典など日本国外で書き著された書物に対して、日本で書き著された書物。現代においては、古典籍だけに用いられる。例：古事記、万葉集、懐風藻。

例文

“その国書の返書期限は約一年先であったが、その間に国論は、攘夷論と開国論に大きく分かれていこうとしていたのである。”
