The center of the celebration is received with respect in the house of feast. He arrives like a groom to his wedding. The bear-funeral was understood as the wedding of the bear. To a male bear a maiden was chosen for a bride, to a female a young man.

According to an ancient Finnish tradition, the last number in a bear-funeral was a festive procession that escorted the skull of the bear to the forest.

This resembles quite closely a tradition in our bear-funeral; the skull was nailed to a delimbed pine tree near the house or was transported to a designated island on which it was attached to a pine tree.
