We asked why the coffin was at the brewer's. The relatives replied that they had brought the deceased for the brewer to see, in case he wouldn't believe it otherwise. In reality, the coffin had been brought from the city and the beer was picked up along the way. Yet they surely had their own troubles, and back then it wouldn't have been surprising if someone had wanted to see even a dead man just to settle a matter of distribution.
