  1. A word or sequence of words that almost reads the same forwards and backwards.
  2. A stretch of DNA, consisting of an odd number of base pairs, of which the nucleotides on one strand are in the reverse order to that of the complementary strand except for the central nucleotide, which is necessarily different.
