Scaly is defined in the Pictorial Dictionary as "a field treatment, consisting of many semi-circles or lunes, covering the field." The overall effect of scaly is of thick lines on a background, as in the field treatment masoned (but with the panes of a different shape than in masoned.) This gore is tinctured in a form of papellony, which is also defined in the Pictorial Dictionary. Papellony has two forms.
