Definitions

A deep, husky, or raspy quality to a person's voice when waking up after a long sleep; occurs because vocal cords are slightly swollen or dehydrated and may have fluid collection in the throat or thickened mucus from overnight sleep or inactivity; caused when vocal folds are swollen and less able to vibrate evenly, causing a temporary change in pitch and texture; typically dissipates within an hour.
