The rest of the world sees the United States as a country that knows it’s the world’s superpower and acts like it, extracting special terms for itself on almost every issue it regards as important to its national interest. As one foreign leader, who did not wish to be named, told me: “We all accommodate American requests and wishes far more than those from any other country.””
