“وَٱحْتَلَّ بِسَاحِلٍ مِنْ سَوَاحِلِ ثُغُورِنَا مَرَاكِبُ لِقَوْمٍ مِنَ ٱلْمَجُوسِ، يُقَالُ لَهُمُ الْأُرْدَمَانِيُّونَ. أَقْبَلُوا مِنْ بَلَدِهِمْ فِي ٱلْبَحْرِ إِلَى أَرْضِ إِفْرَنْجَةٍ، وَخَرَجُوا عَلَى سَاحِلِهِمْ، فَقَتَلُوا رِجَالَهُمْ، وَأَصَابُوا ذَرَارِيهِمْ، وَغَنَمُوا أَمْوَالَهُمْ، وَأَقَامُوا بِبَلَدِهِمْ يَعِيثُونَ فِيهِمْ، وَيَقْتُلُونَ مَنْ ظَفَرُوا بِهِ مِنْهُمْ.”

And then, somewhere along our shores, the longships of a nation of Mazdeans came in, who are called the ʾUrdamāniyyūn. They had journeyed forth from their homeland by sea to the land of the Franks, and then they filed out on their shoreline, slew their men, seized their children, and looted their wealth, and thereafter they lingered around in their country marauding in it and slaying whomever they could catch from among them.

“The Northmen have arrived!” they shout and cry! “Ah, well,” said I, “So let them taste a victory, Islam just knows his strongholds are secure, His swords, to faithless men, excisory.”
