คำนิยาม

ชื่อประจำวงศ์สกุลซึ่งสืบเนื่องจากบิดาถึงบุตร หรือซึ่งได้รับอนุญาตให้จดทะเบียนเป็นทางการแล้ว

ตัวอย่าง

“มาตรา ๑๕๖๑ บุตรมีสิทธิใช้ชื่อสกุลของบิดา ในกรณีที่บิดาไม่ปรากฏ บุตรมีสิทธิใช้ชื่อสกุลของมารดา”

Section 1561 A child has the right to use the family name of [its] father. In the case that the father is not known, the child has the right to use the family name of [its] mother.

“เมื่อการสมรสสิ้นสุดลงด้วยความตาย ให้ฝ่ายซึ่งยังมีชีวิตอยู่และใช้ชื่อสกุลของอีกฝ่ายหนึ่งมีสิทธิใช้ชื่อสกุลนั้นได้ต่อไป”

When the marriage comes to an end due to the death [of either party], the party that is still alive and uses the family name of the other party shall have the right to continue using such family name.
