A simplified legal procedure for minor crimes (e.g. shoplifting and traffic violation) where, under certain circumstances, a suspect can admit guilt and be charged with either a fine or suspended sentence, as a voluntary alternative to court procedures.

He accepted a summary penalty order instead of going to court.
