Exempla

“‘nec voluī fierī nec sum crūdēlis in īrā,”

“I did not want [it] to happen, nor am I cruel in my anger, but that which should be repelled was no concern to me.” (When the ancient Romans neglected to worship Flora (mythology), she allowed flowers and plants to wither. In more natural English, the displeased goddess might say: “but I no longer cared, and did nothing to stop it.”)
