Meaning of garabonciás | Babel Free

Noun CEFR C1
[ˈɡɒrɒbont͡sijaːʃ]

Definitions

A type of wizard in Hungarian folklore, especially associated with thunderstorms and often described as wearing a black cloak and carrying a large spellbook.

Examples

According to folk beliefs the garabonciás rode a dragon, perhaps a cloud, and the dragon was in the cloud; or the storm cloud was the dragon, the dragon caused the storm, or they perhaps viewed the storm itself as a dragon.
