“अति प्राचीन काल मे भारत मे द्रविड़ साम्राज्य था, जिस समय आर्य संस्कृति भारत मे व्याप नही हो सकी थी, उस समय दक्षिण मे द्रविड़ सभ्यता अपने चरम पर थी। द्रविड़ शिवभक्त और लिंगपूजक थे।”

In Ancient India, there was the Draviḍa empire. At the time Aryan culture was not prevalant in India, the Draviḍa civilisation was at its peak in the south. The Draviḍians were devotees of Śiva and phallus-worshippers.

“ऋग्वेद में बार-बार 'दस्यु' शब्द की पुनरावृत्ति हुई है जो संभवतः इस देश के मूलवासी थे और आर्यों के जिस राजा ने उन्हे पराजित किया, वह 'त्रसदस्यु' कहलाया। वह राजा दासों के प्रति कोमल था, किन्तु दस्युओं का परम शत्रु। ऋग्वेद में 'दस्युहत्या' शब्द का उल्लेख बार-बार हुआ है। यह दस्यु लोग लिंगपूजक थे और दूध के लिए पशुपालन नहीं करते थे।”

The term 'Dasyu [lit. enemy of the gods]' is mentioned repeatedly in the Ṛgveda, probably referring to the native of this country [India], and the Aryan king who defeated them was called 'Trasadasyu [lit. who the Dasyus are afraid of]'. That king was gentle towards the slaves, but the ultimate enemy of the Dasyus. The word 'Dasyuhatyā [lit. Dasyu-killing]' is mentioned repeatedly in the Ṛgveda. These Dasyus were phallus-worshipers and did not rear animals for milk.

“पाश्चात्य विद्वानों की यह धारणा भी निराधार है कि भारत के आदिवासी शिश्नदेव अर्थात् लिंगपूजक थे। ऋग्वेद के 7/21/5 और 10/99/3 इन दोनों मन्त्रों में 'शिश्नदेव' पद आया है। इन दोनों मन्त्रों में इन्द्र से यही प्रार्थना की गयी है कि लोगों को पीड़ा पहुँचाने वाले, वंचक, कुटिल तथा शिश्नदेव अर्थात् व्यभिचारी व्यक्ति हमारे यज्ञों को प्राप्त न हों अर्थात् दुष्ट व्यक्तियों का हमारे धार्मिक कार्यों में प्रवेश न हो।”

The belief of western scholars that the Ādivāsīs of India were Śiśnadevas i.e. phallus-worshippers is also baseless. In both the mantras 7/21/5 and 10/99/3 of the Ṛgveda, the term 'Śiśnadeva' has appeared. In both these mantras, the same prayer has been made to Indra that those who cause pain, depraved, devious and Śiśnadevas i.e. adulterous persons should not attain our sacrifices; in simple words, wicked persons should not enter our religious activities.
