1. המקרא עבירה על רצון האל. ולעתים גם פגיעה באדם אם נעשה שלא במזיד.
2. אחד מסוגי הקרבנות שהוקרבו בבית המקדש ככפרה על חטאים, וכחלק מקרבן מוסף במועדים.

“זַעֲקַת סְדֹם וַעֲמֹרָה כִּי רָבָּה וְחַטָּאתָם כִּי כָבְדָה מְאֹד”

Verily, the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and, verily, their sin is exceeding grievous.

“וְאֶת בְּשַׂר הַפָּר וְאֶת עֹרוֹ וְאֶת פִּרְשׁוֹ תִּשְׂרֹף בָּאֵשׁ מִחוּץ לַמַּחֲנֶה חַטָּאת הוּא”
