rhombic triacontahedron

Noun CEFR B2

Definitions

A convex polyhedron that has 30 congruent rhombic faces, 60 edges and 32 vertices of two types (twenty 3-edge and twelve 5-edge) and is the Catalan solid dual to the icosidodecahedron.

Examples

“By combining the twelve vertices of the icosahedron with the twenty vertices of the dodecahedron with the coordinates according to Eq. 6.4 and Eq. 6.5, we obtain 32 vertices of a rhombic body, the so-called rhombic triacontahedron (Fig. 6.39). It is bounded by 30 rhombi, hence the name. Triaconta is the Greek term for 30.”
