  1. A rare game state in which one player has eliminated all of the opponent’s pieces except the king. Used to describe total material dominance before delivering checkmate.
  2. A symbolic or psychological state in which a player humiliates or toys with the opponent by stripping them of all resources, leaving only the king as a powerless figurehead. A king is nothing without its other pieces to protect it or rule over.
