This city is Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul), and beyond its walls the Ottoman forces are preparing for the final assault. For 47 days the Ottoman cannons have been bombarding the city walls. The commanders have specifically targeted three points in their bombardment so that the walls would suffer extensive damage.
