There are many fertile corners in the long valleys of the Eastern Alps and in the Vienna Basin, where grain, fruit and vineyards grow well. Mulberry grows in the southern valleys under protection of the mountains and silkworms feed on its leaves. Lastly, southern fruits ripen and evergreen trees grow near lakes Como, Maggiore and the others.
